5 Reasons to Resurface your Swimming Pool

In Construction Process by John & Sabrina Foley

Your swimming pool should be part of your spring cleaning routine. Just as you want to take care of any indoor home maintenance that needs to be done, spring is the best time to review your outdoor living space, including your swimming environment. If you have any doubt about whether to resurface your swimming pool this spring, here are five great reasons why now is the perfect time for pool remodeling.

1. You Won’t Miss Out on Pool Season

Why not get the best of what your outdoor swimming environment can offer you this coming summer? When you take advantage of the spring to get your pool resurfaced, you won’t miss out on prime swimming season. The temperatures aren’t quite warm enough to swim, but your quality pool contractor will be able to use the spring thaw time to get your pool surface in the best possible condition for this summer and years beyond.

2. Pool Stains Only Worsen Over Time

Over time, pools can become discolored for a variety of reasons, including normal wear and tear, chemical, minerals in the water, and leaves and lawn debris. Stains make your pool appear unsanitary, and can often mask important signs of corrosion or other problems, such as algae growth, leaks or other unhealthy conditions. An experienced pool contractor can treat pool stains according to their cause, and can even resurface the entire pool so it looks brand new.

3. Existing Pool Surface is Eroding

Quality pool resurfacing materials last a long time, but not forever. If you discover signs that the existing pool surface is eroding, then this is an important time to resurface your swimming pool. There are several indicators that the surface may need to be redone, and your pool contractor will be the best judge, but here are a few signs you should be aware of:

  • White, chalky substance on skin after rubbing pool walls
  • Cloudy water
  • Visible tears in the liner
  • Visible cracks

4. You Suspect the Pool is Leaking

A leaking pool can be more than simply a nuisance and a water hog. A pool leak can cause expensive damage to the pool itself, your plumbing, and/or your septic system if you have one. The longer you wait to do so, the more expensive the repair may be. However, if you call on your pool contractor to troubleshoot the leak and possibly resurface your pool, it will be ready by the time summer and swim season arrives. Often times, it can be difficult to tell when there is a leak in your pool. There are, however, a few signs that you can look out for. These signs include:

  • Loss of water that exceeds normal evaporation expectancies
  • Wet spots in the grass or around the pool area.
  • Unbalanced pH levels, regardless of how hard you try to keep them balanced.

5. Your Pool is Ready for an Update

While resurfacing the pool is a great way to repair it, it is also a great way to change the look of your pool. When you have your pool resurfaced, you can have your pool contractor update the space, change the materials, and change the pool surround. When you resurface your swimming pool, you can change the look of your entire outdoor living space.
