The Step-by-Step Construction Process of Building an In-ground Pool

Dive Into Luxury

The decision to add an inground swimming pool to your property is an exciting venture that promises years of relaxation and enjoyment.

However, understanding the construction process is essential to ensure a smooth and successful project. In this article, we’ll take you through the step-by-step construction process of building an inground swimming pool, from initial planning to the first splash.

DESIGN AND
PLANNING

The first phase of building an inground swimming pool is conceptualizing and designing the pool. You’ll work closely with one of our professional and high qualified design consultants to determine the pool’s size, shape, depth, and any other additional features such as steps, benches, or water features. Consider the overall aesthetic to complement your landscaping and outdoor living space.

PERMITTING AND
APPROVALS

Before breaking ground, it’s crucial to obtain the necessary permits and approvals from local authorities. Our highly qualified team will work to ensure that the pool design complies with local building codes, safety regulations, and zoning requirements. This step varies depending on your location and the scope of the project.

EXCAVATION

With approvals in hand, the construction process kicks off with excavation. Heavy machinery is used to dig out the designated area for the pool according to the approved design. The excavated area is carefully shaped to accommodate the pool shell, plumbing, and other components.

FORMING AND
FRAMING

Once the excavation is complete, the pool structure begins to take shape. Reinforcing steel bars, or rebar, are used to form the framework of the pool. This provides structural integrity and supports the weight of the gunite that will be shot to create the pool shell.

PLUMBING AND
ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION

With the framework in place, plumbing and electrical work commence. Skimmers, drains, return lines, and other essential components are installed. Electrical lines are laid for the pool lights, pumps, and any additional features, ensuring that the pool is fully equipped for optimal functionality.

CONCRETE OR POOL
SHELL CONSTRUCTION

The next step involves constructing the pool shell, which is typically made of either shotcrete or gunite (a mixture of cement, sand, and water). This process is carefully executed to ensure a strong and durable finish. The pool shell is then left to cure, gaining strength over a specified period, usually about 14 days.

TILES AND COPING
INSTALLATION

The aesthetic details come into play with the installation of tiles and coping around the pool’s edges. Tiles are applied to the interior of the pool, offering a visually appealing and easy-to-clean surface. Coping, which can be made of various materials such as stone, provides a finished edge around the pool perimeter.

Enhance the pool area by incorporating decking! Choose materials that complement the design of your pool and create a seamless transition between the pool and the surrounding outdoor space. Options include concrete, pavers, or natural stone.

DECKING

Following the decking installation, the pool interior is plastered to create a smooth and watertight surface. Plaster options include traditional white plaster, colored plaster, exposed aggregate, or even more advanced options like pebble or quartz finishes. Plastering not only enhances the pool’s visual appeal but also adds a layer of protection to the pool shell.

PLASTER APPLICATION

FILLING AND
START-UP

The final steps involve filling the pool with water, carefully balancing the water chemistry, and testing all systems for optimal functionality. This ensures a safe and enjoyable swimming experience from the moment the pool is open.

Building an inground swimming pool is a multifaceted process that requires careful planning, skilled craftsmanship, and attention to detail. By understanding each step in the construction process, you can embark on this exciting journey with confidence, knowing that your dream pool is well on its way to becoming a reality. Dive into luxury and enjoy the countless benefits of having your very own inground swimming pool.
